Health Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

Geographic information systems (GIS) and spatial data continue to grow as a resource for formal public health assessments and among informal networks of volunteered geographic information impacting health. This panel will describe and demonstrate the typical uses and potential of using GIS in health-related work within hospitals, public health, and the private health sector. Attendees will learn how GIS has become a platform for a wide variety of useful applications that are consuming increasing amounts of governmental health data and using it to improve community health, personal medicine, and service delivery.
